I was you, not so long ago!
Just before the Canadian Government
decided to lock down our Country and all Air Travel for anyone chosing to excercise their Charter of Rights & Freedoms!
This DID NOT sit well with me,
so just weeks before the lockdown
I packed up my family, packed up our home
and we started a LIFE CHANGING
RELOCATION JOURNEY to
Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo, Gruerro, MEXICO!
With my 19 year old daughter,
we were fleeing an unstable Country,
she quickly became my daily ROCK!
With our cat, five massive suitcases,
and a prayer we boarded our November 2021
AERO MEXICO flight!
On our way to a brand new safer life,
not sure if we would ever be coming home
and trying not to think about it,
so many emotions, mostly ANGER
that we were being chased from our
home, our jobs, school, our country,
leaving family behind not sure we would
see them again. It was a difficult time,
where options felt limited.
There were so many unknowns,
would we ever be coming home again?
would we be allowed back in to our Country?
would we see our family, our friends again.
It was a decision we made and it had to be
made quickly, it was both relief and an
immense sadness at the same time.
it was the most trying, challenging and
definitely not always easy,
but it was worth it! I don't regret
a single moment of this life changing
journey and experience!
"the rest of the story"
I learned SO MUCH!...
and everything I learned, we learned by doing it, and often times failing,
overpaying, escaping the Cartel (true story) and meeting some of the most amazing,
loving and kind people in our lives.
(AND NO NOT EXPATS, they were sadly the same Westerners they were back home, but just transplanted in another Country to spread their uhhh "joy"...NOT!)
to be honest with you, we tended to gravitate away from the "EXPAT COMMUNITIES"
and towards the Mexican people. They were amazing and wrapped their arms around us in a warm hug of love and protection for over 2 years! They were, and will forever be FAMILY!
...to help you not make the same mistakes I did! Given what I know now, I would not even consider a Relocation without a well thought out PLAN!
Mexico is a third world Country, and their rules and way of life, rules and way of life does not even remotely resemble anything in the United States and Canada. So don't go anywhere thinking you will change them, settling into their Country is the GOAL, not changing it into the Country we just left.

Make Sure You Have a Way to Make Verifiable Income Online
I don't trust anyone these days, if you have income like a pension, think about what you would do if it was gone! What would you do?
Have a back up Plan that you are in control
of,not someone else!
TIP #1 Have a Way to Earn Income Online
I will share with you at the end how I earned income online to
which was enough to obtain our Residency, it easily provided the minimum monthly income requirement they needed to see. But any kind of income will suffice as long
as it can be verified past and future.
Keep in mind that Permanent Residency is becoming harder and harder to obtain
due to increasing requirements, again they are protecting their people, country and economic structures, something we are not used to coming from Western Nations where we are used to our governments exploiting.
You can often stay in Countries on a DIGITAL NOMAD VISA,
so having a way to work and earn money online is very valuable.
TIP #2 know the Residency Rules
Anywhere you go...go there with the mindset that you are not coming back! And anything you plan to apply for do it sooner rather than later. Rules change quickly in these foreign countries, often with little notice, you don't want to be caught wanting to do someting, then realize when it's too late that it is no longer an option!
Depending on your situation this could leave you stuck.
TIP #3 Know Income/Asset Rules
You will often have to PROVE your income to be allowed to apply for both temporary and permanent residency, so making sure you have a way to make income is very important as you don't want to find yourself being deported, and they are very vigilant about this.
Know the Rules, don't apply for temporary if you can qualify for permanent, as you don't want to find when your temporary ends, you no longer have the income qualifications for permanent residency or worse, find out requirements have changed.
Friendly Reminder:
As you cannot work as an employee in many Foreign Countries, have your income or Online Income SORTED OUT before you go!
