Parliament returns in just six days,

and Bill C-9 is first on the docket.

This episode of Tap the Maple breaks down

why Bill C-9 represents one of the most serious

threats to free speech and religious liberty in

modern Canadian history.

Framed as “protection,” this bill fundamentally changes how speech, belief, and intent are treated under Canadian law.

Filmed following a town hall in London, Ontario, featuring Conservative MPs Andrew Lawton and Jamil Jivani, this episode gives voice to serious concerns being raised inside and outside Parliament.

Andrew Lawton explains why Bill C-9’s structure sets a dangerous precedent for censorship, while Jamil Jivani shares why faith, conscience, and freedom of belief are not abstract concepts, but lived realities.

Throughout this episode, a QR code is displayed linking to a Conservative petition opposing Bill C-9.

Canadians who believe free speech should never require government permission are encouraged to scan, read, and sign.

This is not about hate.

This is not about extremism.

This is about whether Canadians remain free to speak, preach, question, and believe without fear of state punishment.

Once this line is crossed, history shows us there is no easy way back. Watch. Share.

Speak — before silence becomes the expectation.

Your Defeat Bill C9

"Fight Back" Kit

This is not a joke and is a very serious matter. I think the UK is a little further down the road than Canada where thousands of people have already been arrested for the same

Then, further down the line is Iran as thousands have recently been executed for not complying with the government during the recent protester rallies

Why This Matters:

Freedom of Expression: Bill C-9 could inadvertently limit our ability to freely express opinions and engage in open discussions. It may create a chilling effect by discouraging people from speaking out on important issues.

Potential Overreach: By broadening the definitions of hate speech and propaganda, the bill might unintentionally impact legitimate religious, cultural, and political expression.

Engagement and Action: It’s crucial that we, as concerned citizens, make our voices heard. Contacting our Members of Parliament (MPs) is a powerful way to influence the legislative process.

What You Can Do:

Reach Out to Your MP: Simply click here https://www.ourcommons.ca/en, then click on members at the top menu, then members of parliament to the left side, then down you’ll see the provinces with the number of MLA’s then click on your province to bring up the list (37 for Alberta), click on each person, then click contact, and you will see an email and number. Spread the Word: Share this information and action step with friends, family, and your community. The more people who are aware and engaged, the stronger our collective voice will be.
